Ligon Simmentals
Welcome to Ligon Simmentals! We are a family livestock operation that has been around a long time. In fact, we still operate the family farm that has been in my family on land outside of Nashville, Tennessee that was granted to my ancestors in 1789 for service in the Revolutionary War. The scenery has changed a lot since then, and we also have a farm in Cookeville, Tennessee where we live.

We have been in the Simmental business since the 1980’s. My first involvement with Simmentals began in 1977 when I became farm manager at Tennessee Tech University and there we had a small donated herd of purebred Simmentals. We grew the university herd and my boys started their own herd, showing and selling breeding stock. Now I have retired from the university, the boys are grown but help when they can, and I run 75 momma cows – mainly raising Simmental and SimAngus bulls for the commercial producer. Our bulls are phenotypically pleasing with acceptable calving ease and balanced EPDs. We also have infused a little Fleckvieh genetics in our herd, bringing outcross genetics to the mix.
